Award staff bonuses based on behaviors you want to encourage.

Q: I'm lucky to be having a good year so far and would like to share with my staff. Do you have any ideas for a staff bonus structure that would be tied to performance or productivity?

A: Goals should be specific to the behavior you want to encourage. For example, you could pay $10 per day to each staff person upon achieving the day's desired patient counts. For billing and collection staff, award a bonus based on keeping accounts receivable to a target level without any unnecessary adjustments.
