‘Caregivers need care too’

Being a child or adolescent can be difficult in 2024, and so can being a parent or caregiver. U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has published “Parents Under Pressure,” his latest advisory, about the ramifications of mental health and well-being of parents. It’s chock full of statistics about family stress in the U.S. – and possible solutions for families and society to make each other better. “Simply put, caregivers need care too,” Murthy’s advisory said.

15 minutes for better health

If you want your patients to be more physically active – or you need to be more active yourself – starting with 15 minutes a day can lead to much more exercise over time. It helps if your coworkers are engaged and if there’s some friendly competition involved. Here is a study and accompanying news release about the effects of the “15 Minute Challenge,” a workplace wellness program in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Habitat for huge manatees

How do you treat a sickly patient that weighs well over 300 pounds and lives underwater? Send them to Florida, of course. Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home of “the first responders of the ocean,” has opened the doors of a new Manatee Rehabilitation Center for when those creatures get hurt or sick.
