Coronavirus case numbers in the United States: JANUARY 6 update

Data from the COVID tracking project on coronavirus cases, test results and more.

How many novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were announced today?

The COVID Tracking Project is a volunteer effort to compile federal and state data in regards to new COVID-19 cases, including number of positive and negative tests. Starting today Medical Economics will also include data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccination.

Here’s the latest data, updated on January 4:

Positive tests: 20,825,758

Negative tests: 199,203,160

Number of hospitalized patients: 131,195

Patient deaths: 348,286

Total vaccine doses distributed: 17,020,575

Patients who've received a vaccine dose: 4,836,469
