Umm, high drug costs?

Rules are in place for a reason, including the Prescription Drug User Fee Amendments of 2022, which pharmaceutical makers must follow when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviews new drugs. The rules also cost money -- $4.3 million to file for a drug using clinical data, starting Oct. 1. Here’s the official notice in the Federal Register and an analysis by Clinical Trials Arena.

‘Nonprofit in name only’

Nonprofit hospitals in fact are diversified businesses that may still benefit from tax breaks and other financial advantages afforded to nonprofit organizations. They’re “operating surpluses” and investments may be eye-popping and another example of consolidation in health care. KFF has this perspective.
