The Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) is now accepting applications for the 2011 HIMSS Davies Awards of Excellence. The awards program honors independent physician practices, public health and community health organizations, and hospitals and health systems that have successfully achieved value from electronic health record systems to improve healthcare delivery.
“Organizations receive the award for leveraging health information technology to improve their overall system and delivery of care. A solid technology infrastructure is needed, but it is not the technology that is specifically [honored]. The Davies Award examines management, functionality, technology, and value and [honors] improved processes, value, and return on investment, serving as an educational tool for the industry,” said David Collins, HIMSS director of healthcare information systems. “Those who have successfully been recognized through the Davies Award are typically ahead of the curve to achieve expectations of meaningful use, as many have already achieved e-prescribing, use of clinical decision support, health information exchange, and quality outcomes reporting.”
