Largest health care strike in history looms

About 75,000 Kaiser Permanente hospital workers could go on strike tomorrow morning, making it the largest strike in health care history. The main issue at hand is staffing shortages. Strike locations included in the potential strike are California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

Malaria vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended another new Malaria vaccine for children. “As a malaria researcher, I used to dream of the day we would have a safe and effective vaccine against malaria. Now we have two,” Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General said in an interview. At least 28 African countries plan to introduce the vaccine.

Nobel prize for medicine awarded

COVID vaccine pioneers Drew Weissman and Hungarian scientist Katalin Kariko were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine this week. They also received a $1 million prize. The pair met in 1998 while rationing photocopier time at the University of Pennsylvania.
