Letters to the Editor: Supply and demand drive hiring decision

We have been looking for the past 2+ years for an internist to take over the practice of our senior partner, whom we knew would be retiring.

Your editorial was timely. We are a very busy, three-doctor internal medicine practice in a suburb of Baltimore. We have been looking for the past 2+ years for an internist to take over the practice of our senior partner, whom we knew would be retiring.

Unfortunately, after interviewing only five potential candidates who responded to our queries-they all wanted more money than we could afford to pay and wanted to work limited hours, insisting that lifestyle was a driving issue-we will be taking on a CRNP and hope she will be received well by the patients. We will be one of the first small internal medicine practices in the area to hire an extender.

We are looking forward to a smooth transition and will keep you posted!
