A cognitive psychologist discusses causal beliefs, patient decisions and disclosures, and how those affect health care.
It’s already established that biases exist in favor and against certain patients based on sex, race or ethnicity. What’s less known is whether patient beliefs and the information they share with physicians could complicate care, based on perceptions created during those doctor-patient interactions. Jessecae K. Additional authors are Onur Asan, PhD, and Samantha Kleinberg, PhD, both of the Stevens Institute of Technology.
