Hospital outpatient departments receive more Medicare reimbursement when they provide the same services as physician practices. That contributes to consolidation as hospitals take over doctors’ offices. The Physicians Advocacy Institute calls for a level playing field and paying appropriately for services to patients, said CEO Kelly Kenney, JD.
