Suicidal ideation common in most transgender youth

Suicidal ideation is common in 81% of transgender youth, a study of electronic medical records show. Transgender youth are five times more likely to report ideation than their cisgender counterparts. Experts are calling this a national crisis.

Pig heart transplant update

The second ever human to receive a pig heart transplant continues to recover with no signs of rejection, doctors say. Lawrence Faucette was dying from heart failure a month ago and was unable to qualify for a traditional human heart transplant. The hospital released a video of Faucette working with a physical therapist on a leg exercise. “His heart is doing everything on its own,” Dr. Muhammad Mohiuddin, the Maryland team’s cardiac xenotransplantation chief said in an interview.

Move to ban solvent linked to cancer

The Biden administration has proposed a complete ban on trichloroethylene (TCE) which is used in glues, spot removers, and metal cleaners and is said to cause damage even in small amounts. However, the American Chemistry Council denounces these claims, saying the Environmental Protection Agency had conducted no “realistic” studies of the chemical. Under the EPA proposal, most uses of TCE would be banned within one year.
