Maternal deaths misreported?

An upward trend in maternal deaths is a troubling health indicator for the nation. But fears may be exaggerated, according to a new study that found U.S. maternal death rates are stable, not shooting upward. The American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and an accompanying news release have more about faulty recording techniques to track deaths that occur during pregnancy, childbirth or shortly after.

Mental health and heart health

Depression is the third leading cause of morbidity worldwide and it adds to risk of heart attack and stroke, among other ailments. While mechanisms underlying sex-specific factors are not well understood, the risk appears to be greater for women than men, according to a new study published in JACC: Asia and an accompanying news release.
