Women’s health scores for states

Life expectancy for American women is at the lowest point since 2006, according to The Commonwealth Fund’s new 2024 State Scorecard on Women’s Health and Reproductive Care. Here is a slideshow that presents relevant findings – and what states are getting the worst grades.

A voice for cancer fighters

A Massachusetts man became the first active cancer patient to receive a larynx transplant, and just the third person in the United States to do so. Marty Kedia spent 10 years with just a faint voice due to a partial laryngectomy to fight cancer. Now he can speak to his family and friends, according to this report.

Measles cases increasing

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published its updated measles figures at the start of this month, and the news isn’t good. There were 203 cases across 27 states, with 13 outbreaks, defined as three or more related cases. Last year there were four outbreaks.
