Apple Unveils Newest iPad

Author(s):

After weeks of speculation, the details of the newest iPad were revealed. It will follow the same pricing structure in the past, but features some significant upgrades, such as 4G LTE capability.

The newest iPad was released and it’s called … iPad. Not iPad 3 or even iPad HD, as some sites were speculating. And while the device looks very much the same, it is improved over the second generation iPad.

The tech world was all aflutter today in anticipation of Apple’s iPad product launch. While there were plenty of information leaks in the days and weeks leading up to Wednesday, no one knew for sure what the new iPad would be capable of.

The new iPad, available March 16, will support 4G LTE, making it incredibly fast. If you found video quality shaky in the past, then that should no longer be an issue considering 4G LTE is roughly 10 times faster than the 3G the current iPad operates on.

This better network could make a huge difference. According to Reuters, the cheaper Wi-Fi only models were popular, but customers were hesitant to spend extra on the slow 3G network. The faster 4G network capabilities could prove more attractive.

The rumored iPad HD moniker sprung from the new retinal display, which has more pixels than you would get on an HDTV, according to Apple.

The camera has been upgraded to the same one on the iPhone 4S. And to go with that snazzy new camera is iPhoto for the iPad. This iPad has a voice dictation app, although Apple didn’t mention Siri.

The battery will last 10 hours, but only nine if you’re using 4G, and it follows the same pricing structure that the iPad 2 currently follows. So it starts at $499 for the Wi-Fi, 16 GB model.

However, the iPad 2 won’t be quite so expensive any more. The iPad 2 will stay on the market with a $100 price reduction — something Apple hadn’t done with the first generation iPad.
