As The Alemian File celebrates its one-year anniversary, we look back on the topics that have generated the most interest and questions over the first year.
It’s hard to believe an entire year of The Alemian File has gone by, but when you think about it, we’ve covered a lot of ground.
Today, I thought I would cover a couple of highlights from the past year. The two biggest topics of the past year have been having enough money to retire, and paying for your kid’s college tuition. Certainly there were many topics in between, but most emails you sent were about being able to retire and pay for your kid’s college tuition. I noticed the alarm bell about retirement went off when the first child entered his or her second year of college. That second round of tuition payments, with a lot more tuition to pay after that, made the alarm bell go off loud and clear. College tuition for your kids is so devastating to your financial wellbeing, I decided it would be a good topic to briefly revisit now.
The best way to pay for your kid’s college education is to let someone else pay for it. The way to do that is to contact a nonprofit organization called the Power of Working Together. Their website is POWT.org. This nonprofit 501c(3) organization helps families get merit award money from colleges. It’s free money that you don’t have to pay back. They charge a small fee per family whether you have one child or five. I’ve personally seen what they do, and I know for a fact that it works.
On this one year anniversary of The Alemian File, I also want to remind you to use a permanent cash value life insurance policy as your primary retirement savings vehicle. If you haven’t started one yet, let my message today be a reminder to put this on your front burner. Once it’s in place you’ll instantly feel better because you’ll know you’re on your way to a financially secure future.

One last thing, I have a special invitation for you.
Tomorrow, March 30, at 8 pm Eastern/5 pm Pacific, my friends at Next Generation Trust Services are presenting a live webinar on self-directed IRAs. I’ll be on the webinar too, talking about the “Seven Retirement Killers.” We’ll have a live open question and answer period, and you can ask me any question about retirement you like. It’ll be a great opportunity for us to interact together in a live open forum. You can register right here at the bottom of this page.
