MGMA Announces New Leader

The Medical Group Management Association has chosen Halee S. Fischer-Wright, MD, MMM, FAAP, as its new president and chief executive officer.

Fischer-Wright will take the reins of the association for medical practice administrators on March 23. She succeeds Susan L. Turney, MD, MS, FACP, FACMPE, who left the post in September.

In a press release, Fischer-Wright said she was “thrilled” to take the job.

“I am awed and inspired by the power of the national voice of 33,000 MGMA members, participating in groups of all sizes, specialties and their ability to lead high performance medical practices that elevate patient care, despite the overwhelming velocity of change in healthcare,” she said.

Fischer-Wright currently serves as chief medical officer at St. Anthony North Health Campus in Westminster, CO, part of the Centura Health System. In addition to running her own practice earlier in her career, she has worked as a management consultant and as president of a 680-physician PHO/MSO. She co-authored the book Tribal Leadership.

“Dr. Fischer-Wright’s unique expertise and experience from working in both clinical and administrative roles will be critical in helping MGMA members prepare for value based payments and leverage the full clinical and operational power of their practices to enhance patient care in their practices and position them for success,” said MGMA Board Chair Debra J. Wiggs, FACMPE.

William Henderson, FACMPE, who chaired the search committee, said the association performed “an extremely exhaustive search” to find a new chief executive.

“[A]nd we are confident that Dr. Fischer-Wright’s knowledge, expertise, and leadership abilities will keep the association on a continued trajectory for success and elevate the profession of medical practice management,” he said.
