In the fourth part of the discussion on electronic health records and the impact they have on malpractice claims, panelists break down patient privacy concerns.
Todd Bartos, Esq., a defense trial lawyer with Stevens & Lee, discusses concerns with privacy issues of EHRs, and points out that doctors can’t really do anything to prevent a family member from logging in at home. However, the larger concern is hacking and theft.
“I think [hacking] happens more than is ever reported,” Bartos said.
However, he added that people are afraid to admit they’ve been hacked and there are hacking attempts that don’t need to be reported because they weren’t successful.
