An osteopathic perspective on Match 2025: U.S. medical education and physician leadership

AOA President Teresa A. Hubka, DO, discusses the 2025 Match for medical students.

To address the looming physician workforce shortage, it's essential to expand graduate medical education and invest in teaching health centers, especially in rural and underserved areas, where they can train future physicians where care is most needed. While other health care providers play important roles, physician-led teams are crucial due to the depth and breadth of physician training, and ensuring adequate GME growth will help maintain high-quality, comprehensive patient care, said Teresa A. Hubka, DO, president of the American Osteopathic Association.
