Dads develop post-partum depression
Research shows 1 in 10 fathers develop post-partum depression. Additional research also shows that ‘paternal depression was associated with a 42% higher risk of depression in the child’. The study, which included 7 million fathers, was published in JAMA Network Open.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is calling for a ban on spanking in schools. Although rates of corporal punishment have dropped, it is still “either expressly allowed or not expressly prohibited in 23 states,” according to U.S. Education Secretary Miguel A. Cardona. The AAP also called for spanking to stop in homes.
First Maryland malaria in 40 years
The latest case in the country-wide string of rare, locally acquired malaria infections has been reported in Maryland, which has not seen a case in 40 years. The patient had not recently traveled outside of the country or to Florida or Texas where other cases have been reported. The patient is currently recovering in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
