Drivers of health: Outside the doctor’s office

What happens outside the doctor’s office affects patient health.

Nontraditional factors outside the physician’s office can affect up to 70% of health care outcomes for patients, and the cost of health care services. Physicians Foundation President Gary Price, MD, MBA, gives an example to explain more about how and why drivers of health are so important. The Physicians Foundation believes a proposal by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for a Universal Foundation to measure drivers of health could lead to new ways for doctors to help patients deal with social and economic conditions that affect well-being.
