Physician-led group brings on-site clinics to offices of JPMorgan Chase

A physician-led primary care group will provide health care services for the Ohio offices of financial services firm JPMorgan Chase (JPMC).

The New York-based financial giant announced it has launched three new on-site advanced primary care centers across the company’s offices around Columbus, Ohio. JPMC is working with Vera Whole Health, which uses an advanced primary care model, and Central Ohio Primary Care (COPC), which started in 1996 and has grown to become one of the largest physician-owned primary care groups in the United States.

“COPC is pleased to work alongside Vera as we deliver services to JPMC, an employer with a history of innovating in the delivery of care for its employees and their families,” COPC CEO J. William Wulf, MD, said in a news release. “This partnership reflects the importance of prioritizing access to high-quality primary care services to improve health outcomes and the affordability of care for employees and the broader Columbus community.”

COPC also will provide the same advanced primary care services at two health centers near two other JPMC offices in the Columbus area. They will serve more JPMC employees and more than 15,000 spouses, partners, and children enrolled in the financial firm’s benefit plan.

“Our Columbus-based employees are essential to the success and resiliency of every line of business at JPMorgan Chase, and in turn, the broader community,” Corrine Burger, JPMorgan Chase’s consumer and community chief control officer and Columbus location leader, said in a news release. “Providing them and their families with the highest quality health care services – within the convenience and ease of the workplace and their home – is part of our commitment to them.”

Morgan Health

JPMC formed Morgan Health in 2021 to focus on improving the quality, cost, and equity of health care for 285,000 employees and dependents covered by the firm’s health insurance plan, Morgan Health CEO Dan Mendelson said in a published article. In August 2021, Morgan Health announced a $50 million investment in Vera Whole Health, making it JPMC’s first investment in a coordinated care model.

The Vera-COPC model nurtures the patient-physician relationship with longer appointments and empathetic listening, and with dedicated care teams coordinating aspects of patient health care, Mendelson said.

“Our goal is simple: to improve health outcomes for our 20,000 Ohio-based employees and their families, while building an easily scalable and high-quality care model that other employers across the state could incorporate and offer to their employees,” Mendelson said.

COPC started with 33 physicians and now has more than 90 practices serving more than 450,000 patients, along with “Bring COPC to Your Office” options for employers to provide on-site health care, according to the company’s website. Along with Ohio, Vera Whole Health offers primary care services in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.

Health services

Morgan Health will measure progress through health conditions such as diabetes management and reduction in cardiovascular risk. The Columbus-area on-site care centers will offer health care services for ear, nose and throat concerns, headaches, chest pains, stomach aches, urinary tract infections, muscle aches and pains, rashes and other dermatology concerns, blood or other lab draws, allergy shots, travel immunizations, and other vaccines. The health centers will offer comprehensive wellness exams, behavioral health screenings, health coaching sessions, family planning and contraceptive counseling, virtual primary care consultation and support services, and chronic disease management and treatment, according to the company.
