Small practice physicians will see their burdens eased in 2018 under the proposed rule for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).

The news that many small practices would be exempt from participating under the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2018-only about 37% of clinicians would be required to participate-was warmly received by most physician advocacy groups. However, some primary care physicians who shared their thoughts with Medical Economics remained skeptical about the burdens of the program.
