AMGA Foundation releases white paper on reducing osteoporosis-related fractures
AMGA Foundation has released a white paper and infographic detailing findings from its Osteoporosis Learning Collaborative 2.0, an initiative involving eight health care organizations (HCOs) aimed at reducing fracture rates among female patients with osteoporosis. The collaborative focused on evidence-based strategies, including provider education, patient engagement, expanded access to care, team-based coordination, and clinical decision support. Supported by Amgen and with contributions from the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation (BHOF), the initiative led to measurable improvements in screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
NIH researchers develop 4D brain map to detect early signs of MS
National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers have created a four-dimensional (4D) brain map that reveals early indicators of multiple sclerosis (MS), potentially aiding in earlier diagnosis and treatment. Published in Science, the study used MRI imaging and brain-tissue analysis in a marmoset model to track lesion development in real time. Researchers identified a unique MRI signature signaling brain regions at risk for damage weeks before visible lesions form, as well as a key astrocyte type expressing the SERPINE1 gene, which may influence both inflammation and repair. These findings could help develop targeted therapies.
Physical activity may lower risk of dementia, sleep disorders
Engaging in moderate to vigorous physical activity may reduce the risk of dementia, stroke, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders, according to a new study set to be presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s 77th Annual Meeting in April. Researchers analyzed data from more than 73,000 individuals who wore accelerometers to track activity levels, finding that higher energy expenditure was linked to a 14% to 40% lower risk of these conditions. Conversely, prolonged sitting increased disease risk by up to 54%.
